Egyptian walking onions, a unique onion that set bulbs at the top of the plant – each with numerous small onions that you can harvest for planting or eating.

Egyptian walking onions tastes more like shallots with slightly more pungent. They are Perennial in zones 3-9 this onion can be grown reliably in almost all U.S zones. Also known as tree onions and perennial onions, the plants produce bulbs at both the top and bottom of the plant. When the bluish-green stalk gets top-heavy, the stalk fall over, creating new roots and a new plant where the bulbs touch the ground. One Egyptian walking onion plant can travel about 2 to 3 feet every year, resulting in up to 8 new plants.

The ideal planting time for growing walking onions is between summer and the first frost for a harvest the next growing season. Set the onion bulbs in the soil about 2 inches deep about 6 inches between each bulb.
