Native to tropical Africa and Asia, this tropical variety is very popular in India (Telugu: Dondakaya, Gujarati: Giloda, Tamil:  kovakka, Marathi: Tondli, Kannada: Tondekayi, Hindi: Kundri) amd is extremely easy to grow from seeds.

Usually the fruits are green with white stripes (turn red when ripe) with an average size of 3 inches long.  Tindora / Ivy gourds thrives well under hot and humid weather condition. This plant is a perennial climber with single tendrils and glabrous leaves, however, in the northern states it is treated as an annual, but can be stored indoors during the winter months. The plant remains dormant during the winter season.
