Matti Gulla is a special type of Eggplant/ Aubergine/ Brinjal is said to have been grown since 400 years in the village of Matti located in Southern India (Karnataka), widely grown in Andhra Pradesh and other parts of India. They have centuries-old legacy and are believed to be one of the tastiest variety of Eggplant / Brinjal.

The name was derived from this origin. The word “Matti” was simply derived from the village name and “Gulla” means round in Tulu, the local language.

According to Hindu Mythology It is said that Saint Vaadiraja Thirta (1480-1600) used to offer a prasad called Hayagreeva Maddi to Lord Hayagreeva every day.
